Parents and Guardians,
I just wanted to say thank you for all of you that have been kind and patient with us as we have worked to bring instruction online for all 1200 of our students.  In the last 72 hours I have watched our teachers work miracles as they have completely revamped their way of teaching to ensure that our students still receive a quality education in the midst of the chaos that is the world right now.  I have watched them attend professional develop to quickly learn online platforms and forums for live instruction so that the students can still see their teachers and interact with their peers.  I have watched my staff jump in to help deliver chrome books to families that are sick, pack 100s of lunches and breakfasts for curbside and bus pickup, sanitize the school from top to bottom daily, and learn how to run their reading and math groups online.  I have watched district administration and faculty doing all they can to arrange support, lead us with correct information, and help ensure that technology is available for everyone.
Has it been perfect?  Absolutely not.  But I have been amazed at how quickly everyone has acted for our students and families.  All I can say is that I am so proud that I am part of the Iron County School District and Cedar Middle School community.  I couldn’t ask for a better district for my own children to attend school.  We are fortunate!
I want to ask you as parents to please don’t hesitate to call if you have questions or concerns.  We can’t fix a problem if the only place we hear about it is on social media and quite frankly this does nothing but inflame the issue and spread negativity.  Our teachers are working hard to provide quality curriculum.  Our tech people are working hard to ensure the technology is working and bugs get fixed as we run into them (which we undoubtedly will).  We know that our parents are working hard as well.  We are here to help and support you as you have been tasked with ensuring your child can access the curriculum provided (because honestly no one asked us as parents if we were okay with this arrangement right?).  I know it is overwhelming right now but we will all settle in and find our routine soon.  Please stay positive and know that we are all in this together and want what is best for our students.
We miss our students (our kids).  It is beyond sad to walk the halls and see them empty.  We miss the hustle and bustle that is middle school.  We worry about if our students are okay and the emotional impact that social distancing will have on this socially driven age group.  Please don’t hesitate to reach out if your family needs anything (food, supplies, or other support).  It takes a village and nothing like a pandemic quickly reminds us of that fact.
As always please contact us with any questions or concerns that you have.  We will continue to send updates on the situation through Remind and email as we receive them.
