Cedar Middle School Parents and Guardians,
We have had an extremely busy and productive day here at CMS as we work to outline our plans for curriculum delivery for our students now that our schools are on dismissal due to COVID-19.  Below you will find some important dates and times that you need this week.  Also you will find the curriculum delivery plan outlines for each grade level.  This plan includes each grade levels teacher office hours as well as the platform for instruction that the teachers will be using.  We worked hard to find a schedule that allows for students to “attend” all their classes online (including electives) during the time period allotted for Secondary schools so that elementary schools can have their online time in the afternoon.  We are hoping this also provides somewhat of a schedule for our students and makes your life easier as parents.  If your child cannot attend a “live” session on the computer these will be recorded to watch at your convenience and posted in Google Classroom or Canvas (see below for what platform your child’s teacher is using).

Remote Teacher Office Hours
We felt that it was important for each teacher to have a scheduled time that parents and students could get in touch with them.  Please keep in mind that these ARE NOT in person office hours due to CDC/state guidelines.  Each individual teacher will be letting you know how their office hours will work (some may be available through Google Meet and others will be available through a designated time to attend to calls and emails).
“Live” Instruction through the Computer
We will be working to provide “live” instruction to our students as much as possible and scheduling permits.  This does not mean that your child comes to school, however, they will log on to their computer and watch the teacher teach a lesson and be able to interact with the teacher.  Each grade level is working as a team to ensure that instruction times for classes do not overlap.  Core classes (math, science, reading/language arts, and history) will have live instruction two times a week.  This will also be recorded and posted on their google classroom or canvas site so your student can log in if they aren’t able to during the scheduled time below.  Live instruction will take place through a platform called Google Meet.  This is a free tool for educators that integrates with all other Google products that we currently use.  More training on this tool will be coming soon.  You can find the “live” instruction times below.
Please note – Your student does not need to have the video portion of the live instruction on their own cute faces.  There is an option to turn off their camera and leave the teacher camera on for instruction.  If having your student’s camera on makes you uncomfortable just have your student turn it off.

Your child’s teacher (or team of teachers) will be contacting you with a follow up email that will include more details about curriculum and instruction delivery and the details of how that will look for their grade or class.

Counseling Services

Students receiving counseling, social/emotional groups or other services through our social worker or school counselors will continue to receive these services but it will come in a different format. School counselors will call and check in on students that they were seeing at school. Our social worker will be contacting you as parents to arrange services remotely for individual and group sessions.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to call or email. We are working hard to ensure that your child will receive a quality education during the time we are on dismissal. Thank you for being patient with us. I especially want to thank the teachers for hustling to get everything online for our students to access. This was no small task and I am proud of our school community and how well they have come together for our students. We are so fortunate to be able to call Cedar Middle School our home!
